Commander's Comments...

Compatriots,

The 2010 Division Reunion was a rousing success. I thought it was the best one I have ever attended. We were especially honored to have the mayors of Manchester and Coffee County attend. State Senator Jim Tracy had lunch with us and State Representative Eric Stewart attended the dedication ceremony. Thanks to the Reunion Committee, who made it happen.

Confederately yours,

Brent

2010 REUNION RECAP

THE CHEATHAM NEWS

May 2010 p. 4

The Purpose

The purpose of this short recap is to provide a brief summary of our recent division reunion for those camp members who were unable to attend.

The Planning

A Planning Reunion Committee was appointed late last summer by Camp 72 Commander Brent Lokey, and was chaired by Larry Williams. It met a number of times and functioned smoothly, despite its rather large size.

A checklist was developed that listed every task necessary to host the event, and tasks were assigned to members of the committee. At every meeting, members would report their status in percentage of completion.

The Location

Manchester was chosen for the reunion, as it was most convenient for the host camp members and possessed a high quality convention center.

The Facility

The Coffee County Convention Center was chosen to host the reunion, as it had all the attributes needed. Proximity to I-24, an attached motel, more than adequate meeting and dining rooms, a reasonable price structure, and excellent chef and kitchen all combined to make it an obvious choice.

The Convention Center staff was extremely cooperative as we developed the plan for the reunion. Camp 72 Adjutant Mike Anderson negotiated the terms, and no major glitches occurred.

The Agenda

We packed a lot of activity into one weekend. We tried to build the agenda so that those living nearby had the option to arrive and register early Saturday morning, while those coming from farther away could travel on Friday evening and enjoy more time to socialize.

Friday evening consisted of registration and socializing over some great hors d'oeuvres provided by our UDC ladies.

Early Saturday morning, the remaining registrations took place, then everyone attended the opening ceremonies.

The business meeting began about 9:00 a.m., and the guests attended the fashion show organized by our UDC ladies.

Lunch was excellent. We listened to remarks by several interesting speakers as we dined on London broil or chicken cordon bleu.

The afternoon was devoted to a four-hour bus tour of Tullahoma Campaign sites, highlighted by a monument dedication at Beech Grove Cemetery. The superb narration by Dr. Bradley made the tour most educational.

Saturday evening was really special. After the awards ceremony, we dined on prime rib or blackened salmon, while being enlightened and entertained by Stephen and Allison Gipson of the Buttonwillow Church Dinner Theater.

On Sunday morning, there was a tour of the beautiful chapel at the University of the South conducted by Father Charley Watkins.

The Attendees

The attendance level was excellent, with 100+ voting members and 51 guests present. We rented 18 vendor tables, and several area politicians participated in one or more activities.

The Elections

Division Cmdr - Mike Beck

1st. Lt. Cmdr - Dave Roberts

2nd. Lt. Cmdr. - Lee Millar

Starnes Bde. Cmdr. - Dave Roberts

The Results

Everyone seems to have enjoyed the weekend and all our business was accomplished handily.

To date, there seem to be no complaints about anything other than Saturday's frequent thundershowers, which lacked the severity to stop a determined division of Confederates.

The Hope

Next time, more of us will find a way to attend and enjoy.
